01:Plan the Garden of Your Dreams
Two things are essential to creating a dream garden: knowing what needs to be done and having a well-thought-out plan to get there. Ms. Myers provides you with a summary of the detailed steps involved in designing a garden. She walks you through the tasks of clearing out existing garden areas, testing your soil, assessing growing conditions, selecting the ideal topsoil, making the most effective use of annuals, perennials, and biennials, and mapping out…
02:Get the Right Plant for the Right Place
You may still design beautiful gardens even in smaller, urban spaces (like at a townhouse). Learn how to deal with space and light issues in the same way you would in a larger garden area. Next, concentrate on selecting the appropriate plants for your garden. Which plants serve as effective centerpieces? Which plants are more tolerant of shade than others? Which pairings will enhance depth and…
03:Prepare Healthy Soil and Plant for Spring
Soil is the key to a thriving garden. Learn everything there is to know about soil and how to work with it to create the garden of your dreams in this course. You’ll discover the properties of various soil types, how to enhance the soil in your garden, how composting and mulching can improve the health of your garden, when and how to fertilize your plants, and—above all—the ideal way to grow…
04:Design for Light, Water, and Microclimate
See a small-space garden and look into tried-and-true techniques for resolving typical planting and design issues for areas that are frequently difficult to work with, like patios, deck edges, and the areas surrounding gas meters and air conditioners. You will discover some of the best options for dimly lit settings, avoid typical over- and under-watering errors, and more throughout the lesson—all of it based on…
05:Refresh Your Summer Garden
The summer is a great time to evaluate your garden and determine what needs to be done to maintain the health and aesthetic appeal of your plants. First, discover the secrets to efficient garden care all during the growing season: increasing fruit and vegetable yields, managing pests in the most environmentally friendly manner, identifying the source of discolored leaves, and more. Then, you’re taken by Ms. Myers to…
06:Add New Color in Fall and Prep for Winter
Explore some of the many ways you can extend your garden through fall and take advantage of the cool air and warm soil (which is great for planting a variety of trees, shrubs, and perennials). You’ll discover how to create a stunning cool-season garden, harvest and store herbs, prune and shield your plants (and your lawn) from a potentially severe winter, and more. You’ll also learn how to add bulbs for a pop of spring beauty.
